Introduction
Responsible for the efficient operations of the Acid Plant control room area by performing, lockouts, isolation and complete clearance permits.

Specification
Take the necessary action to meet the Shift/daily production targets as set.
Analyze and interpret shift performance trends and initiate changes to ensure metal throughput and recovery in accordance to shift targets.
Supervise work activities of the acid plant.
Attend to process maintenance activities and interact with engineering to ensure all tasks are completed according to plan.
Input production data as required for the Daily report.
Ensure that all samples are taken and dispatched according to set operating procedures.
Coordinate shift handover is done properly between the oncoming shift and the current shift.
Review the laboratory results in consultation with the Supervisor and take the necessary steps to improve plant performance.
Maintain proper process plant records, log sheets and equipment running data sheets, recognize readings outside specified values, and inform the
supervisor should these occur.
Identify production problem areas and in consultation with supervisor and initiate modifications to improve production.
Conduct daily and monthly inspections according to schedule and ensure that subordinates comply with the inspection schedules.
Attend pre-planning meetings to discuss all lockout requirements and all work to be done and examine the risks.
Manage all lockout activities on shift and ensure that equipment is locked out according to the Lockout and Isolation Procedure and ensure all energy
sources are isolated before work can commence.
Audit all completed lockout activities, and discuss deviations with all concerned.
Interact with employees to create a culture that encourage a proactive approach to Safety, Health, Environment and Radiation.
Complete all required safety related documents including safe work permits, locks registry, etc. and ensure all work is carried out safely.
Identify all SSHER impacts for the sections and provide resources to execute the action plans and correct deficiencies.
Ensure compliance to good housekeeping practices in the workplace and report unsafe practices and unsafe working conditions
Attend and participate in departmental SSHER meetings and assist in resolving concerns and issues.
Conduct Safety inductions for new employees and visitors at Acid Plant section
Safely prepare basic equipment for maintenance, following established procedures and policies.
Coordinate monthly, weekly and daily plant inspections for all Sections under area of responsibility, and ensure compliance by subordinates
Participate in all inspections and keep track of actual against schedule and take appropriate action to ensure compliance to schedule.
Ensure that all inspections are captured on inspection sheets and all actions emanating from inspections reach the relevant departments by loading
onto SAP/Safety Management System.
Responsible for compiling a comprehensive shift report which covers safety, production and downtime.
Discuss and coordinate processing requirements with relevant stakeholders, and communicate this to the subordinates.
Give concise and clear instruction to shift personnel to ensure that tasks are executed safely and efficiently.
Communicate all production delays to the Power plant section with accurate forecast for when production will resume.
Review and analyse all job requests generated for quality to ensure that clear communication reaches the maintenance department.
Requirements
Grade 12
Five years’ experience working in an Acid Plant.
Technical knowledge of plant operational processes and procedures
Knowledge of SSHER-Q policies and procedures.
Experience in Acid Plant Operations.
Knowledge Isolation Operations.
Knowledge of Lock out Procedures
Knowledge of Confined spaces operations
Experience in Handling hazardous chemical and material
Valid Code B/BE Driver’s License.
