Job Specifications:

Responsible for managing the entire operational activities of the Commercial Lines business to ensure profitable growth, sound risk management and quality standards being implemented within our Sales, Underwriting and Claims teams. Whilst continuously looking after the wellbeing of our employees, the incumbent is also responsible to enhance our customers’ experience and continuously strive to exceed the service expectations of our intermediaries in this line of business.

  • Responsible for managing the operational activities of the entire Commercial Lines function to ensure profitable growth across all distribution channels;
  • Regular review of financial performance with direct reports to ensure achievement of growth, profitability and retention goals through proactive measures;
  • Identify and promote cross-selling opportunities;
  • Ensure sound and responsible underwriting standards;
  • Procurement management and control of claims cost;
  • Engage with sales team and other stakeholders to identify new business opportunities;
  • Develop and implement adequate pricing strategies;
  • Monitor adherence to service- and other key performance indicators on regular basis;
  • Produce and interpret monthly reports to ensure speedy and pro-active response in order to meet quality standards;
  • Perform periodic quality audits across sales, underwriting and claims teams;
  • Manage and resolve customer complaints;
  • Develop and grow intra-group cross-selling opportunities;
  • Create conducive work environment to support and enhance collaborations efforts across departments, supported by effective communication strategies.

Minimum Educational Qualifications and Experience:

  • Grade 12 and/or Equivalent Qualification;
  • CA or relevant degree in Commerce or Finance; MBA or similar qualification will be added advantage
  • Short-term insurance qualifications will be added advantage;
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Short-term insurance or Financial services industry of which at least 5 years at Executive or Managerial level;
  • Track record of commercial management success and proven ability in establishing and growing commercial teams;
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft applications;
  • Proven ability to meet and exceed tough business targets on a consistent basis;
  • Excellent communicator with a passion for customer service and relationship building;
  • Ability to coach and develop subordinates;
  • Ability to identify and develop business opportunities;
  • Ability to operate within relevant regulatory requirements;
  • Have exceptional interpersonal relationship skills;
  • Willingness to work irregular hours and to travel;
  • Valid driver’s license;
  • Strategic business acumen;
  • Results driven with excellent organizing, execution and conflict handling skills;
  • Have the ability to build positive working relationships with internal & external stakeholders;
  • Have the ability to maintain strategic focus in a busy and high-performance environment;
  • The ability to work under pressure while maintaining excellent client relationships and high service standards.
