MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
Execute training courses and coach learners to impart required skills using standard designed assessment tools to assess learners’ competency and issues certificate of competency as applicable
Key Performance Areas:
- Execute by facilitating training courses as per monthly and weekly training schedules.
- Prepare lesson plans to ensure a consistent approach to learning, in terms of the learning objectives, learning progression and time management.
- Check that the objective of the course is achieved by using various training methods and methodologies.
- Ensure adherence to relevant procedures and report any deviations from the procedure to management.
- Ensure reactionary feedback is completed after each training course and submitted to the supervisor for any improvements required.
- Adhere to the principles of assessment in terms of fairness, reliability, authenticity, currency, sufficiency, flexibility and validity.
- Adhere to assessment methodologies when conducting assessment and ensure it is appropriate for the performance and abilities to be assessed.
- Ensure all assessment documents and material is available and ensure it is treated with the necessary confidentially.
- Ensure the following is done in a professional and consistent manner during the assessment process.
- Record all assessment decisions and supporting evidence to enable moderation and/or review purposes on the assessment outcome.
- Record assessment decisions as Competent (C) or Not Yet Competent (NYC) and treat it confidential.
- Provide feedback to the learner(s) and ensure retraining or retesting is arranged within the required time lines.
- Inform learner about their right to appeal against an assessment decision and/or process, malpractice case and/or reasonable adjustment.
- Conduct moderation on assessments as and when required.
- Ensure certification is in line with the training requirements.
- Co-sign as assessor on competency certificate with relevant training officials.
- Promote a safe environment conducive to learning and understanding.
- Display professional behavior at all times to inspire the learners.
- Plan learning activities taking into account the needs of the learners.
- Be on time for all training activities, and lead by example and manage the learning environment.
- Show and be respectful when communicating with learners.
- Plan and conduct participatory outcomes-based activities that challenge and support learners and encourage maximum participation.
- Respond to feedback received from learners and check for understanding through questioning and review quizzes.
- Provide regular, constructive feedback regarding performance.
- Create opportunities for learners to ask subject-matter questions
- Create an environment for learners to practice and do self-study within the confines of the classroom.
- Address any non-conformances to this Procedure immediately.
- Conduct skills audit on the development needs of the employees and introduce training interventions to address competency /skills gap and improve performance.
- Assist EUD with the implementation of post training coaching/ mentoring.
- Follow up on application and transfer of newly acquired skills and knowledge (post-training evaluation).
- Report observations during training (behavioral) where applicable.
- Sensitize EUD’s on training policies and procedures.
- Conduct inspections and investigations with SSHER- Q department (incidents) and log observations.
- Liaise with EUD and obtain relevant information when modification of equipment/processes are done and provide feedback to Curriculum section.
- Compile and sign-off all training documentations after each training course and submit pack to the planning and execution section.
- Accurately complete all assessment documents, feedback forms and sign off as applicable.
- Adhere to the company document control processes and procedures.
- Liaise with EUD and obtain relevant information when modification of equipment/processes, etc. are done and provide feedback to Curriculum section.
Requirements and experience:
- Grade 12 with a Higher Certificate in Occupationally Directed Education Training Development Practices, NQF Level 5.
- Minimum 3 years’ skills facilitator experience in the Mining Industry.
- Registered to train, assess and moderate Earth-Moving Heavy Equipment and lifting equipment.
- Experience in conducting safety training such as, Working at Heights, Confined Space and Permit to Work, etc.
- Registered with NTA as an Assessor and Moderator.
- Facilitation certification
- Basic Rigging training added advantage
- Valid Code B/BE Driver’s License. (Code C License added advantage)
