POSITION: OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH NURSE
DEPARTMENT: GOVERNANCE, RISK & LEGAL
LOCATION: PORT OF WALVIS BAY
JOB GRADE: 08

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To administer and coordinate activities of the Namport Clinic to ensure responsive medical support for employees in accordance with Namport’s policies and procedures. The incumbent is the senior Health Practitioner and is therefore accountable for providing specialist support to management and promote primary health care to the Namport workforce. The position reports directly to the Manager: Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) and supervises another Health Practitioner.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

▪ Promote employee welfare by attending to employee general health problems and providing information on treatments and prevention of illness.
▪ Conduct medical assessments, treat, evaluate, refer (if necessary), and follow up on all injuries and illnesses incurred by sick or injured employees.
▪ Order and control medications, store and prescribe medications within the prescribed conditions of the professional and ethical rules.
▪ Monitor employees on chronic treatments, provide primary counselling and relevant support and make recommendations for further rehabilitation and treatment when needed.
▪ Monitor symptoms of an illness or injury and provide guidance to employee/ line management on measures that could be implemented to prevent future occurrences of the problem that resulted in the illness or injury.
▪ Administer and coordinate routine health examinations to prevent occupational injury and health problems.
▪ Develop, implement and maintain a Health awareness programs to educate employees on prevailing health conditions.
▪ Facilitate all external medical assessments with contracted Company Medical Doctor/ health medical service providers, where applicable.
▪ Manage employees initial and annual medical examinations in compliance with work instructions on medical surveillance procedures.
▪ Oversee and update all first aid boxes and provide relevant emergency training when required.
▪ Research best health practices and recommend strategies to improve the services of the Clinic.
▪ Accountable for the effective management of the Namport Clinic, procedures, health administration and records and budget and ensure strict confidentiality of employees’ medical treatment.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
▪ Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Science or equivalent.
▪ Registration with the Namibian Nursing Board as a Registered Nurse.
▪ At least five (5) years relevant nursing experience, with at least one (1) year of supervisory responsibilities.
▪ Certificate in Occupational Health Nursing will be an added advantage.
▪ Previous experience in Occupational Health Nursing environment will be an added advantage.
▪ Possession of a Dispensing License will be added advantage.
▪ Code BE Driver’s License.
▪ Must be trustworthy with a high level of integrity and ability to strictly maintain confidentiality.
▪ Sound verbal and written communication skills, coupled with well-developed interpersonal and customer service skills.
▪ Must be analytical with strong problem-solving skills, excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
▪ Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
▪ Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
